S4S (Sign for Sign) -
Making a myspace fan sign for someone with the expectation that he or she will reciprocate by making you a fan sign.
The purpose of a fan sign is to make you appear as though you have fans. Typically someone who wants to make you a sign for a sign will ask you in a comment. It should look something like this:
“Hey baby ur so fkkin sexxee.. S4S?”
The most important advice for S4S is this:
When someone invites you to do a sign for a sign, make sure they do their sign first or make sure you talk to them a while and trust them enough to make you a sign.
Typical Paper / Cardboard Signs
A “fan sign” on myspace is usually a piece of paper held up next to your face in the mirror with “I love (some person’s screen name and myspace ID)” or something like “(some person) is sexy/hawt/etc”.
Here’s an example of a regular paper sign:

It’s kind of boring, so you probably want to spruce things up a bit with colors at least.
This is how a paper sign should probably look. Notice how it’s easy to read the sign and all the personal touches that say “this would have been a pain to do in photoshop”:

This person took the shortcut and held up a piece of white paper so he could photoshop on the writing later. We don’t recommend the lazy way because it looks cheap and fake:

If you’re going to photoshop your signs, they should look creative like this one:

Make sure you hold your sign up properly and that your camera is focused correctly on the sign (and maybe also your face if you have a nice one). Don’t do this:

Try to be creative with your myspace signs, there are a lot of things you can do. Here are some S4S ideas:

Body Signs and Hand Signs
Some people prefer a “body sign” or “hand sign” which is the same as a fan sign, except instead of using paper, you use a marker on your skin (such as your fingers or the palm of your hand, or your boobs / tummy / etc). Remember that Myspace doesn’t allow females to show nipples or anyone to show butt cracks or genitals. Tom will delete you or make you brake yo’self. Oh yeah for body signs - if you don’t got it, don’t flaunt it.
Here’s an example of a nice, quick, simple hand sign done with a marker:

This guy has a decent body, but the sign was kinda quick and dirty. I suppose he wanted Hollie to stare at his body while she tried to figure out what the sign says:

This skinny emo kid made a pretty good sign for Raine a.k.a. Nintendoll. He turned up his contrast really high in order to make the sign easier to read (or maybe to hide chest hairs, who knows.) I think it’s a success. A body sign should probably look something like this:

Fan art isn’t really a sign, but I thought it was worth mentioning here. If you have fan art, it means you have some actual real fans who are extremely dedicated. Drawing a picture of someone (or tastefully photoshopping it) takes a lot of work. Train whores have lots of signs on their myspace profile page, but scene queens and real celebrities have fan art instead.

More Advice on Myspace Signs
- Beware of betches on myspace who hit u up and fkkin lie and don’t do their sign after u do ur sign.
- When you put signs up on your page, create a separate album and label it “signs” or “fansigns” or even better “signs - add these ppl” (with their short myspace URL or friend ID next to their signs)
- Always give credit to the person making you a sign unless they perfer to remain anyonymous (like anyone does?)
- Most people prefer that you put their short myspace URL ( www.myspace.com/somegirl ) as the caption of their photo. You should prefer this too if you want lots of people to see that you’re down for S4S and you want lots of people to add you.
- If you’re going to be lazy and photoshop your signs instead of making a real sign by hand, then at least be creative in photoshop and make sure people know you aren’t a fake.
